Detroit, MI and Princeton, NJ –  Health Alliance Plan (HAP), a nonprofit regional health plan based in Detroit, has partnered with Assist America of  Princeton, N.J., the premier provider of global emergency services through employee benefit plans, to protect its members with emergency travel assistance. For members, this means knowing where to go for emergency medical treatment in an unfamiliar place; for employers, this service alleviates the liability associated with covering unexpected care costs when an employee becomes ill or injured while traveling on business.

Effective immediately, Assist America will support HAP and Alliance Health and Life Insurance Company members and their families through their group or individual medical benefit plans with an array of services if they become ill or injured while traveling 100 miles or more away from home, or in another country.  Members are automatically enrolled in the program at no extra cost and there are no exclusions for pre-existing conditions, adventure sports or geographic risk.

“As the only Michigan-based health plan to offer Assist America’s global emergency services, we believe the Assist America program is a valuable enhancement to our individual and group health products, and a service that further demonstrates our commitment to the health and well-being of our members,” said Lori Rund, vice president, Product Development and Market Intelligence at HAP. “Now hundreds of thousands of southeast Michigan families and business travelers can travel with peace of mind, knowing that a single phone call can put into motion vast resources to handle any travel emergency.”

“HAP has implemented a number of health and wellness programs that demonstrate their commitment to the total well-being of their members,” says Stephanie Croquez, Vice President of Business Development for Assist America.  “With Assist America’s comprehensive global emergency services—designed to be one of the least restrictive assistance plans in the market—HAP now fulfills those goals even for members who are traveling. We are thrilled with this partnership.”
