Jay Menario Joins Assist America as Senior Director of Business Development

Princeton, N.J.—Assist America, Inc., a premier provider of global emergency services through employee benefit plans, has hired Jay Menario as senior director of business development, effective September 20.  He will have broad responsibility for U.S. sales initiatives, marketing, product development and enhancements, and will be based in the corporate headquarters in Princeton.
 

Princeton, N.J.—Assist America, Inc., a premier provider of global emergency services through employee benefit plans, has hired Jay Menario as senior director of business development, effective September 20.  He will have broad responsibility for U.S. sales initiatives, marketing, product development and enhancements, and will be based in the corporate headquarters in Princeton.

“As a 26 year veteran of the employee benefits insurance industry, Jay brings a wealth of experience to this new position,” said President and Chief Executive Officer Brian J. Mulligan. “The combination of his expertise in product development, distribution, marketing, strategic planning and training with UNUM, The Hartford and CIGNA are an asset – and a perfect fit for Assist America. We are pleased that he is joining our team to help us further expand our assistance services in the U.S. market and enhance our global presence.”

Most recently, Menario was vice president of broker development at Unum Life Insurance Company. He was responsible for expanding and deepening broker relationships, aided by the emergence of healthcare reform, and led the effort to design a program to help insurance professionals sell higher levels of non-medical group and worksite products. From 2007 to 2009, he was vice president of product development, focusing on strategies for all UNUM group and worksite offerings. The product suite included: STD, LTD, Group Life, LTC and all Voluntary Workplace Benefit products.

He was senior vice president and chief marketing officer for CIGNA Group Insurance from 2003 to 2005, and held a similar position from 2005 to 2007 with the Hartford Group Benefits Division. Earlier in his career, he spent 16 years with UNUM Group’s predecessor companies: Union Mutual, UNUM and UNUM Provident.

Mr. Menario has a B.S. degree from the University of Southern Maine, graduating with Summa Cum Laude and Phi Kappa Phi distinctions. A chartered life underwriter, he has been active in his local community, volunteering for the Maine Children’s Cancer Program, the United Way of Greater Portland, and serving as a board member for Portland Ovations (2008 – 2011), a local performing arts organization.
