Low cloud ceilings and low visibility are disrupting flights at airports in New York City and northern New Jersey Dec. 5. Below is a list of affected airports and average delays as of 1330 EST:
  • Newark Liberty International (EWR): Average delays of 3 hours and 30 minutes
  • Teterboro Airport (TEB): Average delays of 3 hours and 15 minutes
  • John F Kennedy International Airport (JFK): Average delays of 51 minutes
  • LaGuardia Airport (LGA): Average delays of 5 hours
Heavy cloud cover is forecast in the region through the night of Dec. 5, and major disruptions are likely to remain through at least the evening. Even after conditions improve, residual delays are likely and could last well into the nighttime hours. Extensive delays at EWR and LGA could produce broader network disruptions for some carriers, potentially causing delays at airports outside the New York-New Jersey area.

Advice
Confirm flights, particularly if connecting through the affected airports. Do not check out of hotels before verifying onward travel.
