Storm Recovery Efforts Slowed by Storm Herminia
The passing of Storm Eowyn has resulted in extensive damage across Ireland, the UK, and the Isle of Man, leaving thousands without power and water as of early January 27th. Over 440,000 homes and businesses in Ireland and Scotland remain without electricity. Recovery efforts are underway but have been hindered by conditions brought on by Storm Herminia.
Storm Herminia is expected to bring stronger winds, rain, and snow through January 28th. Weather warnings include small craft and gale warnings in Ireland and yellow wind and rain warnings in the UK. Coastal overtopping and flooding remain concerns, especially in vulnerable areas like the Isle of Man. Flights services are resuming, but residual delays and cancellations are expected. Authorities are urging caution as prolonged disruptions to travel, power, and communication systems are expected in the coming days.
