Assistance
Assist America’s Operation Center received a call from the husband of a member who has Assist America’s services through her health insurance plan. The member suffered a stroke while vacationing in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with her husband and two children. Her husband, who is a Registered Nurse, expressed concern about the quality of care at the local hospital where she was admitted. After assessing the situation, Assist America’s medical team agreed and provided an emergency medical evacuation via air ambulance to a hospital in Southern Florida. Once she was ready for discharge, Assist America provided a medical repatriation on a commercial flight back to the family’s home in Minnesota with a medical escort to assist.
