Today, March 28th, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Sagaing Region in Myanmar. A 6.4-magnitude aftershock followed shortly after, and the tremors were felt across Myanmar, Thailand, Bangladesh, India, and China. Damage assessments are underway, but initial reports indicate collapsed buildings, buckled roads, and infrastructure damage. Mandalay International Airport (MDL) has been closed for safety assessments. Rail services, including BTS Skytrain and MRT lines, have been suspended and the Thai government has declared a state of emergency in the capital in response. Aftershocks are expected, and authorities may continue to shut down transportation services for safety inspections.
