Ongoing Volcanic Activity in Kilauea, Hawaii

This morning, increased volcanic activity has been observed at the Kilauea Volcano in Hawaii, with eruptions ongoing in Halemaʻumaʻu and the Kaluapele summit caldera. The eruption produced volcanic gas emissions that could impact air quality in downwind areas, with the possibility of more intense eruptive episodes in the coming days. In response to the increased activity, officials have raised the Alert Level from Advisory to Warning and upgraded the Aviation Color Code from Yellow to Red, the highest levels in both systems. Ashfall from the eruptions could disrupt air travel, potentially affecting flights at Kona International Airport (KOA), Hilo International Airport (ITO), and other airports across Hawaii.
