AssistAlert:
PTC 18 Strengthening Towards Caribbean Islands

A potential tropical cyclone is rapidly intensifying as it tracks across the Caribbean Sea, expected to strengthen into a tropical storm as it approaches Jamaica early November 5th. The storm is anticipated to shift northwest, nearing the Cayman Islands, before becoming a Category 1 hurricane (Rafael) and making landfall over Isla de la Juventud and Pinar del Rio Province in Cuba on November 6th.

Severe weather conditions are expected in the region with heavy rainfall, strong winds, landslides, flash flooding and dangerous storm surges. The storm is likely to weaken back into a tropical storm once passing along the Caribbean Sea and tracking across the Gulf of Mexico towards Louisiana. Conditions will spread into Florida and parts of the Southeast U.S. November 6-10th. Flight disruptions at regional airports and temporary port closures are possible.
