Severe Weather Impacting Various Japanese Prefectures

A powerful weather system is expected to bring severe conditions across Japan until at least March 19th. Strong winds of up to 126 kph (78 mph), blizzards, and heavy snowfall are forecast for several regions, including Chugoku, Kanto, and Tohoku. Significant snow accumulation is expected in mountainous areas and areas like Aso City in Kumamoto Prefecture are already experiencing road closures.

Transport disruptions are expected to increase, with possible delays and cancellations at airports and ports. Flooding from heavy rain could affect low-lying areas, and snow may cause hazardous travel conditions in mountainous regions, including the risk of avalanches. Travelers are advised to monitor local media for updated weather and transport information and to check all travel plans.

  • Monitor local news for updates & follow all official directives.

  • Prepare a three-day supply of provisions and non-perishables.
  • Avoid unnecessary travel and check for road closures before heading out.
