Torrential Rain Floods Tripura
Heavy rainfall from Aug. 18th has caused significant flooding and landslides across Tripura State, leading to widespread disruptions. At least seven people have lost their lives, and more than 5,600 residents have been displaced. Many roads are currently impassable, and schools across the state have been closed until further notice. Relief efforts are underway, with 183 camps set up to support those affected.
The India Meteorological Department warns of more rain expected in the coming days, with authorities issuing red alerts for heavy rainfall through Aug. 27th. The continued downpour could worsen the flooding, especially in low-lying areas and regions near rivers. Travelers are advised to remain vigilant in hilly areas for the risk of landslides.
