Tropical Storm Helene Catching Momentum in the Caribbean Sea

   

Tropical Storm Helene is intensifying and has strengthen into a Category 1 hurricane as it passes through the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico, early September 25th. The storm will further strengthen into a Category 4 hurricane as it tracks northward, bringing heavy rainfall, strong winds, and dangerous storm surges. A state of emergency has been declared across 41 counties in Florida ahead of Helene’s landfall late September 26th. Evacuations are in effect along the Panhandle, Tampa Bay area, and west coast of Florida. 

Authorities have issued multiple weather advisories, including hurricane and storm surge warnings for coastal areas. While the storm is anticipated to weaken after landfall, the likelihood of flash floods, landslides, and isolated tornadoes are possible across the southeastern U.S. Prepare for severe weather and possible disruptions to transportation, utilities, and essential services. Residents and travelers should remain vigilant and follow evacuation orders as conditions continue to change.

  • Prepare a three-day supply of provisions and non-perishables.
  • Take precautions against insect- and waterborne diseases in the coming weeks. 
  • Exercise caution in elevated terrain due to the threat of landslide
