Tropical Storm Trami Targets the Philippines

Tropical Storm Trami (also known as Kristine) is strengthening as it moves northwest over the Philippine Sea, with landfall expected in the Cagayan Valley Region late October 23rd. The system is anticipated to weaken upon touchdown in Luzon Island, before exiting into the South China Sea by early afternoon of October 24th. Weather advisories have been put into place for strong winds, rough seas, and heavy rainfall totals across various areas of the Philippines.

Operations have been suspended in several government offices in anticipation of the storm and evacuations have been ordered due to the risk of flooding, landslides, and lahars near the Mayon Volcano. The storm has also led to the closure of Samar Island’s Calbayog Airport and the cancellation of several flights in the area. Ferry services have also been suspended at numerous ports, affecting nearly 3,000 people who rely on the service.
