Typhoon Bebinca Approaches Shanghai

   

Typhoon Bebinca is rapidly moving towards Shanghai and has made landfall on September 16th. Strong winds and heavy rainfall are forecast for Shanghai and surrounding areas, with evacuation orders already in place for more than 18,000 people. Major disruptions are expected, including flight cancellations at Pudong and Hongqiao airports, and suspensions of subway and train services. 

A red typhoon warning has been issued, the highest level, with 10-19 cm (4-7.5 inches) of rain on the way. While the storm is anticipated to weaken after landfall, the likelihood of flash floods, landslides, and travel disruptions in nearby Jiangsu, Zhejiang, and Anhui provinces remains high. Local businesses and public services might also face interruptions; stay informed and prepare for potential changes in the storms’ track.

  • Avoid flooded areas and stay indoors during severe weather.
  • Prepare a three-day supply of provisions and non-perishables.
  • Take precautions against insect- and waterborne diseases in the coming weeks. 
  • Exercise caution in elevated terrain due to the threat of landslide
