Typhoon Doksuri Makes Landfall over Fujian Province
Typhoon Doksuri, the tropical cyclone responsible for the tragic capsizing of a ferry off the coast of Manila, has made landfall in southern China early this morning. The typhoon, which has affected both Taiwan and the Philippines, swept into the Fujian Province in a relentless onslaught of heavy rain and winds. Doksuri has affected more than 724,600 people, with 124,400 people evacuated and resettled. In the Fujian port city of Quanzhou, 39 people were reported to have suffered minor injuries, and more than 500,000 homes lost power along with significant damage reported to the retractable roof of a local stadium. The extreme rain bands are anticipated to near Beijing between Sunday the 30th and Monday the 31st.
