Typhoon Gaemi Churns Off Taiwan Coast
The strongest storm system to hit Taiwan in eight years is anticipated to make landfall late Wednesday evening. The torrential rains cast off by Typhoon Gaemi have already wreaked havoc on the Philippine capital of Manila, flooding the city amidst monsoon season as the storm approaches Taiwanese shores. Over 4,000 people have been preemptively evacuated from high-risk regions as the country braces itself for impact. All domestic flights and 227 international flights have been cancelled with air traffic from the Philippines and Japan’s Okinawa prefecture also affected.
