Wildfires continue to rage across southeastern South Korea as of March 27th, prompting the government to declare a national emergency. The fires began on March 21st - due to dry, warm, and windy conditions - and have burned more than 36,000 hectares (88,958 acres) of land, with North Gyeongsang Province being the hardest-hit region. Firefighters and rescue teams are on the scene, but many fires remain uncontained.
Authorities have reported 27 fatalities, 32 injuries, and the displacement of around 37,000 people. Over 2,500 buildings have been damaged, and power, water, and communication outages have been reported in affected areas.
