Winter Storm impacts Canada and Northeastern U.S.
Severe winter weather is sweeping across southeastern Canada and the northeastern U.S., creating dangerous travel conditions through February 19th. Heavy snow squalls and strong winds are expected around the Great Lakes and the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Some areas may see up to 28 inches (70 cm) of snow, with wind gusts reaching 62 mph (100 kph), leading to whiteout conditions and reduced visibility. Extreme cold warnings have also been issued, with dangerously low temperatures across parts of Ontario and Quebec.
Travel disruptions are expected due to snow-covered and icy roads, especially on highways and smaller roads that may become impassable. Authorities are urging travelers to delay trips, if possible, as whiteout conditions could make driving extremely dangerous. Flight cancellations and delays are likely at airports across the region. Power outages may occur due to falling trees and strong winds. Travelers should stay informed of changing conditions, avoid unnecessary travel, and take precautions against extreme cold if venturing outdoors.
